Acid reflux, bloating and gas, constipation, a stomach that never feels settled: digestive complaints are among the most common reasons people look for an Ayurvedic doctor. Preeti Gupta at Minute Wonder Ayurveda in San Ramon helps people with these concerns, and much of what she does is look closely at how, when and what you eat.
Ayurveda is a traditional system of wellness. Preeti does not diagnose pathological conditions from a Western perspective, so her work sits alongside the care of your physician and never replaces it. If your physician has diagnosed GERD, IBS or another condition, Ayurveda can support your daily habits alongside that care.
What Ayurveda looks at
In Ayurveda, digestion is the center of health. The traditional word is agni, the digestive fire: how well you break down food and turn it into nourishment. The classical texts describe balanced doshas (vata, pitta and kapha), balanced digestion and proper elimination of waste as signs of good health. When digestion is weak or irregular, the tradition says undigested residue, called ama (accumulated toxins), can build up.
That is why Preeti does not look at a symptom alone. She looks at your diet and the timing of your meals, your bowel movements, your daily routine, exercise and sleep, and at your constitution (Prakriti) and current imbalance (Vikriti). The same symptom can have a different story in different people, so the plan is built around you and not around the label.
What a consultation with Preeti covers
Preeti Gupta is Ayurvedic Doctor-level certified (NAMACB) and a professional member of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA). Your first visit is a 90-minute consultation ($250). She goes through your health concerns and symptoms in detail, then your daily routine, diet, digestion, exercise and sleeping habits. She uses discussion, a detailed health history, pulse analysis, skin examination and tongue diagnosis to understand your constitution and where it is out of balance.
You leave with a customized diet plan, self-care routines, and recommendations for herbal supplements, decoctions and oils. Follow-ups are $125 for 60 minutes. Preeti usually recommends focusing on one or two imbalances at a time, starting with the ones that affect you most. Before the visit she asks you to write down your daily routine and keep a food diary of everything you eat and drink, with times. See pricing.
What she may recommend
A customized diet plan: what to eat, how to prepare it and when to eat it for your constitution.
Daily routine and self-care practices that support regular digestion and elimination.
Herbal supplements, decoctions and oils where they suit you. Tell Preeti about every medication and supplement you take first.
Simple kitchen recipes from her site, listed below.
If a deeper reset makes sense, a conversation about Panchakarma, the classical program built from Abhyanga, Swedana, Shirodhara and Basti therapies. She will also tell you if it is not right for you yet.
What you can start this week
Cumin, coriander and fennel (CCF) tea. A warm spice tea simmered for 5 to 7 minutes. Preeti describes it as a digestive tea for bloating and gas. The recipe page notes who should check with a practitioner first, including anyone pregnant, nursing or with a serious health issue.
Takra, digestive buttermilk, with roasted cumin, ginger and mint. Her page suggests room-temperature takra after lunch and dinner, and lists who should avoid it, including people with lactose intolerance or a dairy allergy.
Mung bean dal, cooked with ghee and spices such as cumin and coriander. Her page explains that mung beans are easy to digest when prepared this way.
When to see your physician
See your physician promptly, before or alongside any Ayurvedic care, if you have blood in your stool or black, tarry stools, vomiting blood, trouble swallowing, unexplained weight loss, severe or constant abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, or a lasting change in your bowel habits. Chest pain can feel like reflux but can be a heart problem: call 911. Do not stop or change prescribed medication, including acid reducers, without talking to your doctor.
Common questions about digestion
Can Ayurveda help with acid reflux?
Ayurveda supports digestion through diet, daily routine and, where suitable, herbs, and acid indigestion is one of the digestive concerns Preeti helps with. She looks at what you eat, when you eat and how your digestion behaves, and builds a plan around your constitution.
It does not replace your physician, especially if reflux is frequent, wakes you at night or comes with any of the warning signs above.
Can Ayurveda help with bloating, gas and constipation?
Preeti looks at your diet, meal timing, routine, sleep and bowel pattern, then recommends changes you can make at home, such as the recipes above. Many clients report feeling a difference within the first few weeks of following their plan, and lasting change usually comes over months.
Can Ayurveda help with IBS?
IBS is a diagnosis made by a physician. Preeti does not diagnose it, but she can look at the wider pattern around it: your diet, meal timing, daily routine, sleep and constitution. Her takra recipe page describes buttermilk as traditionally used to support digestion. Keep your physician informed of any changes you make.
