Sneezing through spring, a cough that lingers, colds that keep coming back, or feeling run down all winter: breathing and immunity concerns are among the things Preeti Gupta works with in adults and in kids at Minute Wonder Ayurveda in San Ramon. Her About page lists coughs, chronic colds, chronic sinusitis and rhinitis, respiratory problems and low immunity among them.

Ayurveda is a traditional system of wellness. Preeti does not diagnose pathological conditions from a Western perspective, so her work sits alongside the care of your physician and never replaces it. Asthma, recurring infections and allergies are medical matters that stay with your doctor.

What Ayurveda looks at

Ayurveda links mucus, congestion and heaviness with kapha, the dosha of structure and moisture, which tends to build in cold, damp months. Preeti also looks at digestion, sleep, daily rhythm and the season, because in this tradition a body that digests well and rests well is better placed to stay well.

What a consultation with Preeti covers

Your first visit is a 90-minute consultation ($250). Preeti goes through your concerns and symptoms in detail, then your daily routine, diet, digestion, exercise and sleep, using a health history, pulse analysis and tongue diagnosis. You leave with a customized diet, herbal and lifestyle plan. Follow-ups are $125 for 60 minutes. See pricing.

What you can start this week

When to see your physician

Get emergency care for trouble breathing, wheezing that does not ease, blue lips, swelling of the lips or throat, or a child who is breathing fast or working hard to breathe. See your physician promptly for a cough lasting more than three weeks, coughing up blood, fever with chest pain, or infections that keep returning. Do not stop inhalers, allergy medicine or immune medicines without talking to your doctor.

Common questions about breathing and immunity

Can Ayurveda help with allergies and sinus congestion?

Preeti looks at season, diet, digestion and routine, and may suggest food and habits that fit your constitution. This sits alongside your allergy medicine and never replaces it.

Do you see children for coughs and colds?

Her About page says she works with adults and kids. Ask about your child on the free 15-minute call, and see a pediatrician for fever, ear pain or trouble breathing.

Can Ayurveda support my immune system?

Preeti works on digestion, nourishment, sleep and routine, which Ayurveda counts as the base of resilience. She makes no promise about how often you will be ill, and she asks you to keep your physician informed.
