A burning sting, a constant urge to go, and the sinking feeling that it is back again: recurring urinary tract infections wear people down. A UTI needs a physician's diagnosis, and Preeti Gupta at Minute Wonder Ayurveda in San Ramon supports food, fluids and routine alongside that care.
Preeti does not diagnose pathological conditions from a Western perspective, so her work sits alongside the care of your physician and never replaces it.
What Ayurveda looks at
Ayurveda describes burning urinary complaints as excess heat, pitta, and looks at hydration, diet and habits that raise heat in the body. Preeti looks at:
Fluids across the day: how much, what kind, and when.
Heat in the diet and the day: very spicy food, coffee, alcohol and dehydration.
Your pattern: what tends to come before an infection, such as travel, stress or a new medicine.
What a First Visit covers
A First Visit is 90 minutes ($250). Preeti reviews your daily routine, diet, digestion, exercise and sleep, using a health history, pulse analysis and tongue diagnosis. For recurring UTIs, expect time on:
Your history of infections, your physician's cultures, and any preventive medicine you take.
Daily habits around fluids, bathroom routine and sleep.
A cooling, hydrating food plan, and which herbs are safe alongside your medicines.
You leave with a written diet, herbal and lifestyle plan. Follow-ups are $125 for 60 minutes. See pricing.
What you can start this week
Two hydrating options from her recipe pages:
Barley drink (jau ke sattu). Her page calls barley water hydrating and cooling. Avoid barley with gluten sensitivity.
Cumin, coriander and fennel (CCF) tea. A warm tea is an easy way to drink more through the day. Check the page first if you are pregnant or nursing.
See your physician first if
Fever, chills, back or flank pain, nausea or vomiting. These can mean a kidney infection; see a doctor the same day.
Blood in the urine, or any urinary symptoms during pregnancy.
Symptoms that return again and again, or that do not settle quickly.
Common questions about recurring UTIs
Can Ayurveda take the place of antibiotics?
No. A UTI needs a physician's diagnosis and often prescription medicine. Preeti works on the habits around recurrence and does not replace what your doctor prescribes.
Will Preeti suggest herbs?
Possibly, after she has your full medicine list and your physician's findings. Herbs are chosen for you, not recommended in general, and your physician should know about them too.
How do I prepare for the First Visit?
Bring your culture results, your medicine list, and the routine and food diary Preeti asks every new client for. Add notes on fluids and when symptoms began.
